P3® System for Lasting Downturn
The patented P3® System begins beneath the toes and wraps around the foot. It stabilises the aggressive profile and distributes tension throughout the shoe, helping the downturn and toe-box shape remain consistent over time.
An anatomically shaped Hytrel support in the metatarsal area improves power transfer and gives the Solution greater support than softer competition-focused models.
Moulded 3D Heel Cup and Lock Harness System®
The fully rubber-coated, moulded 3D heel cup creates a stable contact surface for powerful heel hooks. The patented Lock Harness System® surrounds the foot and connects it securely to the upper, improving stability during demanding hooking movements.
Rubber around the toe box supports toe hooks and technical foot-jamming movements. The pointed shape concentrates power at the tip for precise contact on small features.
Fast Lacing System™ for Precise Adjustment
The Fast Lacing System™ combines the speed of a hook-and-loop closure with a tensioning structure that extends across the foot. The fit can be adjusted with a single closure while the Lock Harness System® provides additional support.
This construction allows the Solution to be put on and removed quickly while offering a more personalised fit than a conventional single-strap climbing shoe.
Vibram® XS Grip2 for Grip and Control
The 3.5 mm Vibram® XS Grip2 outsole combines high friction with controlled support. It performs particularly well on small footholds, overhanging boulders, technical rock routes and powerful hooking sequences.
The combination of sticky rubber, aggressive downturn and supportive midsole makes the Solution particularly effective when precision and support matter more than maximum softness.
Fit and Sizing
La Sportiva does not classify the Solution as a wide-fit model. From our practical experience, it is particularly suitable for narrow to medium-width feet and Egyptian toe profiles, where the big toe is the longest. Its pointed toe box and pronounced asymmetry must match the individual foot shape.
For a performance-oriented fit, approximately two to three EU sizes below regular street-shoe size provides a practical starting point. Climbers prioritising comfort can size less aggressively. An extremely tight project fit should always be selected according to foot shape and personal tolerance.
Solution or Solution Comp?
The classic Solution provides greater support, a substantial 3D heel cup and stable power transfer onto small footholds. It is especially effective on steep rock routes, overhangs and boulders where precision and tension are essential.
The Solution Comp is softer, more sensitive and more focused on modern competition boulders, volumes and dynamic movements. Choose the Solution for greater support and edging performance. Choose the Solution Comp for maximum sensitivity and adaptability.
Our Assessment
The La Sportiva Solution is one of the most established performance climbing shoes for steep routes and demanding bouldering. Its greatest strengths are small footholds, overhangs and powerful heel hooks.
Its aggressive construction is less suitable for beginners, long climbing days or predominantly low-angle friction slabs. Advanced climbers receive a precise, supportive and shape-retaining specialist for challenging projects.
