Edelrid Ohmega – Braking Assistant for Gym and Crag
The Edelrid Ohmega supports the belayer during sport climbing by providing additional braking resistance. Three adjustable braking levels allow it to be adapted to the climbing partnership. An integrated pulley keeps friction low while climbing and clipping. This compact braking assistant is designed for single ropes with diameters from 8.6 to 10.5 mm.

Braking Assistance for Your Climbing Partnership
The integrated HMPE sling allows the braking resistance to be adjusted to three levels. During a fall, a cam increases rope friction, reducing the load on the belayer. The appropriate setting depends on the manufacturer's instructions and the conditions of the climbing partnership.
Less Friction While Climbing and Clipping
While climbing, the rope runs over the integrated pulley. This reduces the additional friction at the device when moving up and clipping the rope. The Ohmega thus combines low-friction rope travel with additional braking resistance during a fall.
From the Climbing Gym to the Crag
The Ohmega is intended for climbing gyms, sport climbing crags and alpine sport climbing routes using a single rope. Alongside the permitted rope diameter, the condition of the rope and the selected braking level must be considered. Actual braking performance depends on these factors.
Our Assessment
We recommend the Ohmega to climbing partners who want to supplement their belaying with adjustable braking assistance. Your existing rope and the needs of both partners are key considerations when choosing the device. Its three braking levels and integrated pulley make it particularly interesting when additional braking resistance and low rope drag while climbing are equally important.
Questions About Choosing the Ohmega
Does the Ohmega replace a belay device?
No. The Ohmega supplements partner belaying. A suitable belay device, competent belaying technique and an attentive belayer remain essential. Follow the current manufacturer's instructions for setup, adjustment and use.
Is the Ohmega only useful with a large weight difference?
Edelrid intends the Ohmega for climbing partners with and without a weight difference. Whether braking assistance suits you, and which level is appropriate, depends on your partnership, your rope and the permitted setting in the manufacturer's instructions.
