Petzl GLACIER – Lightweight Ice Axe for Glacier Travel
The Petzl GLACIER is a lightweight ice axe designed for glacier travel, classic mountaineering and use in snow and ice. Its curved head fits comfortably in the hand when used in the piolet-canne position. The tapered steel pick and stainless steel spike provide reliable anchoring in hard snow and ice.
Four lengths from 50 to 75 cm are available. The lightest 50 cm version weighs only 320 g.
Reliable Anchoring
The tempered steel pick tapers to 3 mm at the tip, allowing it to penetrate hard snow and ice precisely. The durable stainless steel spike supports secure use while walking and also provides effective penetration.
The robust adze can be used to efficiently carve out steps. Holes in the pick and spike reduce weight and provide options for connecting a carabiner.
Comfortable Handling
The upper part of the head provides a supportive surface that fits comfortably in the hand when the ice axe is used in the piolet-canne position.
Grooves cut into the lower section of the aluminum shaft improve grip when the axe is held further down the shaft. The GLACIER combines low weight with a functional construction developed for glacier travel.
Four Lengths
The Petzl GLACIER is available in lengths of 50, 60, 68 and 75 cm. The appropriate length depends on factors such as the user's height, terrain, type of tour and preferred use.
The compact 50 cm version provides the lowest weight, while the longer versions offer greater reach when used in the piolet-canne position.
Included Equipment and Accessories
Protective caps for the pick and spike are included. They cover the sharp metal components during transport and help prevent damage to other equipment.
The removable Petzl LINKIN leash is available separately and is not included with this GLACIER model.
