Petzl Micro Traxion – High-Efficiency Progress-Capture Pulley
The Petzl Micro Traxion is a lightweight and compact progress-capture pulley for crevasse rescue, haul systems and self-rescue. It can also be used as an emergency ascender for short rope ascents.
Weighing only 85 g and providing 91% efficiency, it combines high performance with an extremely compact format. This makes it particularly suitable for glacier travel, alpine tours, multi-pitch routes and mountain rescue equipment.
Construction and Performance
The 27 mm sheave runs on sealed ball bearings. This allows the Micro Traxion to achieve 91% efficiency and reduces friction when hauling a person or equipment.
The integrated progress-capture mechanism holds the rope that has already been pulled through and prevents it from running backwards. The mechanism continues to operate on frozen or muddy ropes.
The cam can be locked in the open position. This allows the Micro Traxion to be used as a simple pulley without the progress-capture function when required.
Rope installation diagrams are engraved inside the pulley to indicate the correct installation direction. An additional hole allows the pulley to be connected to a Petzl Sm’D carabiner with a cord, reducing the risk of losing the device.
Rope Compatibility and Applications
The standard rope compatibility range is 7 to 11 mm, covering a broad selection of alpine ropes.
Two specific manufacturer approvals also apply to Petzl 6 mm cords:
The PUR’LINE approval must not be transferred to person rescue, rope ascent or other applications.

Our Assessment
The Petzl Micro Traxion is one of the most versatile compact components for alpine rescue and haul systems. It combines the clamping function of an emergency ascender with a highly efficient pulley, reducing the need for additional equipment.
Compared with the Petzl Tibloc, it weighs 50 g more but adds a ball-bearing pulley with 91% efficiency. When constructing a haul system, this additional functionality is considerably more important than the difference in device weight.
For glacier teams, alpine tours, crevasse rescue and multi-pitch routes, the Micro Traxion is our clear recommendation when a particularly versatile yet compact solution is required.
