Description

Blue Ice Choucas Light Blue – Ultralight Mountaineering Harness

The Blue Ice Choucas Light Blue is a minimalist mountaineering and ski touring harness designed for adventures where low weight and compact pack size are essential. Depending on size, it weighs only 84 to 95 g.

Blue Ice developed the harness for mountaineering, ski touring and ice climbing. Its leg loops open completely, allowing you to put the Choucas Light on or take it off without removing your skis or crampons.

Minimalist Construction

The webbing is made from UHMW polyethylene and nylon. Secured aircraft-grade aluminum leg-loop buckles combine low weight with a reliable closure system.

The Choucas Light has two tying loops with an adjustable clip backup. Its independently opening leg loops make the harness easier to put on in alpine conditions.

Equipment for Mountaineering and Ski Touring

Two gear loops provide space for essential alpine equipment. Two additional keepers on the leg loops can be used to organize ice screws.

Fit and Sizing

According to Blue Ice, the Choucas Light fits slightly small. Consider whether you intend to wear it underneath or over your touring clothing when choosing the size.

If your waist or thigh measurement falls between two sizes, Blue Ice recommends choosing the larger size. Clothing should be included when measuring and trying on the harness for use over winter layers.

Our Assessment

The Blue Ice Choucas Light is particularly suitable for ski tourers and mountaineers who need a certified harness primarily for glacier travel, technical mountaineering or shorter protected sections.

Its main strengths are its extremely low weight and the ability to put it on while wearing skis or crampons. Its highly minimalist construction is not primarily designed for extended hanging or comfort-oriented sport climbing.
