Comfort for multi-pitch routes and long climbing days
The La Sportiva Mythos Lady combines the traditional Mythos construction with a softer and more sensitive build. It is designed for climbers who prioritise comfort and adaptability during multi-pitch routes, long days on rock and varied sport-climbing routes.
Its natural and minimally aggressive shape allows a more relaxed toe position than highly asymmetric performance shoes. This enables the Mythos Lady to be worn for extended periods without placing the foot under the same pressure as an aggressively downturned shoe.
Softer women’s construction
La Sportiva constructs the women’s version more softly than the regular Mythos. According to the manufacturer, the basic shapes and volumes remain the same. The Mythos Lady should therefore not automatically be described as narrower or lower volume.
Its softer construction provides greater sensitivity and makes it easier for lighter climbers to flex and load the sole. This is particularly useful on smears, rounded features and varied rock surfaces.
Vibram® XS Grip2 friction and sensitivity
The 4 mm Vibram® XS Grip2 outsole provides high friction and more sensitive contact with the climbing surface. This clearly differentiates the Mythos Lady from the regular Mythos, which uses the firmer Vibram® XS Edge compound.
XS Grip2 supports controlled placements on friction-based footholds and provides direct feedback from the rock. A 1.1 mm LaSpoFlex midsole adds balanced support.
Adaptable unlined suede
The upper is made from unlined suede leather. During use, it adapts to the individual shape of the foot and contributes significantly to the lasting comfort of the Mythos Lady.
Because unlined leather can stretch noticeably, the shoe should initially fit closely without empty spaces. A fit that is already loose when new may lose too much precision after breaking in.
Patented Mythos Lacing System
The patented Mythos Lacing System distributes tension evenly across the entire foot. Its extensive lacing adjusts both forefoot volume and heel fit.
This allows finer adjustment than a climbing shoe with a simple hook-and-loop closure. The lacing can also be tightened during climbing or loosened slightly at belays.
Long routes and varied rock climbing
The Mythos Lady is particularly suitable for multi-pitch routes, alpine rock climbing and long sport-climbing days. Its minimally aggressive shape and adaptable leather are also comfortable in cracks because the toe joints remain in a more natural position.
It can also be used for occasional indoor climbing. Its greatest advantages, however, appear on rock and longer routes where comfort and an evenly adjusted fit are more important than maximum downturn.
Fit and sizing
La Sportiva specifically classifies the Mythos Lady as a non-wide-fit shoe. Nevertheless, the unlined leather and patented lacing system allow it to accommodate different foot shapes.
In our assessment, it is particularly suitable for narrow or average-width feet. The lacing can provide additional volume for somewhat fuller feet. Very wide feet should ensure that the sole width matches the foot rather than relying solely on the leather stretching.
For a comfort-oriented multi-pitch fit, approximately 1 to 1.5 EU sizes below regular street-shoe size is a useful starting point. For a closer sport-climbing fit, approximately 1.5 to 2.5 EU sizes below street size may be appropriate.
The Mythos Lady should fit closely but not painfully. Because the unlined leather adapts with use, it can initially feel slightly tighter than a fully synthetic climbing shoe.
Our assessment
The Mythos Lady is an excellent choice for climbers seeking a comfortable and sensitive leather shoe for long routes. Compared with the regular Mythos, its softer XS Grip2 sole is easier to load and provides greater friction feedback.
The regular Mythos provides slightly more edging support through XS Edge. The Mythos Lady instead offers advantages in sensitivity, friction and accessibility for lighter climbers. It is not automatically narrower; its main difference is the softer construction.
It lacks the high tension and extensive toe rubber required for modern competition bouldering, extreme overhangs and aggressive toe hooks. For multi-pitch routes, traditional rock climbing and long days on the wall, however, it remains an exceptionally adaptable and comfortable shoe.
